Circumcision is a private procedure that should be considered and conducted with great care. These procedures can be preventative, corrective, or cosmetic and tailored to each patient’s needs.
Dr. Mohamed Bidair has performed thousands of circumcisions on infants, children, and adults since 1988. He also conducts circumcision revisions on men who are unhappy with their original circumcision results.

About Circumcision Procedures
A variety of circumcision methods are used in the United States today. The choice of circumcision method depends on the physician and on the patient. For infant males, devices such as the Gomco clamp, the Mogen clamp, and the Plastibell are commonly used. Circumcision as an infant is a simpler procedure than when it is performed on adults. Newborns have better healing abilities than adults and do not require sutures. (1) Adult men undergo a “free-hand circumcision,” which commonly uses either the sleeve technique or the dorsal slit technique. Each instrument and technique has its own unique advantages. (2) Dr. Bidair will be able to recommend the best procedure for you.
Circumcision Revision
For many men, the circumcision that they received as an infant or child had undesirable results. Reasons for a circumcision revision include:
- Asymmetrical foreskin
- Excessive or overly loose foreskin
- Unsightly scarring
- Skin Bridges
Complications during the healing process can have resulted in a host of other symptoms that can emotionally and physically hinder male well-being. In a recent study, skin bridges accounted for nearly 30% of the late complications reported by the Massachusetts General Hospital group. Skin bridges occur when the circumcision incision adheres to the glans penis, creating an unusual and unappealing path of skin that connects the foreskin to the head of the penis. This can be uncomfortable for the patient and requires surgical intervention. (2)

For men whose parents did not choose to circumcise them as an infant, they now have the advantage of being able to make this decision for themselves as an adult. They know their body, lifestyle, and sexual activity. Adult circumcisions offer a wide range of health and cosmetic benefits and can be customized to achieve specific results.
Cosmetic Circumcision
Men who choose to undergo circumcision for cosmetic reasons still reap the health and hygienic benefits that circumcision offers. Cosmetic Circumcision can be a life-changing confidence boost to men who struggle with shame in the locker room or bedroom. Depending on your anatomy, Dr. Bidair will explain the options available to you, and you’ll be able to choose a circumcision style that pleases you. Dr. Bidair can tailor your circumcision to give you the optimal appearance and sensation. Your results will depend on how much foreskin is removed and where the incision in the foreskin is made in relation to the shaft of the penis.
During your circumcision surgery, the remaining foreskin will be positioned and tightened on the shaft of the penis to your specifications. Dr. Bidair can either incise the foreskin close to the head of the penis, removing less of the foreskin for what is considered a “low” cut. Alternately, he can remove more foreskin and expose more of the shaft of the penis for a “high” cut.
As Dr. Bidair tailors the foreskin, he can also adjust its tension. While some men are more comfortable with a loose foreskin, other men enjoy the sensation of a tight, supportive foreskin when fully erect. The “high and tight” circumcision style is a popular option.
Circumcision to Treat Medical Conditions
It’s thought that the practice of religious circumcision was developed in response to hygienic concerns. Modern science has proven the benefits that ancient peoples supposed.
Circumcision is an effective solution for:
Male genitalia is sensitive, with delicate skin whose folds and crevices require caring attention. Unfortunately, the foreskin can trap bacteria and lead to painful infections with embarrassing side effects. Balanitis occurs when the head of the penis becomes inflamed due to either a bacterial infection, a sexually transmitted infection, or irritation from soaps or detergents.
Posthitis is the inflammation of the foreskin itself. This can occur from the same triggers of balanitis and can occur simultaneously, resulting in a condition known as balanoposthitis.
These conditions can be avoided by circumcision, as can phimosis and paraphimosis. Phimosis occurs naturally but can lead to miserable genital conditions. Phimosis is when the foreskin is so tight that it can’t be easily retracted over the head of the penis. This results in painful sex and masturbation and makes it difficult to maintain proper hygiene, increasing the patient’s risk for balanitis and the other inflammations described above. Paraphimosis is a related condition that can have grave consequences. Patients with paraphimosis have such tight foreskins that when they are retracted, they become lodged behind the edge of the glans, cutting off circulation. (3) This is a medical emergency, and the patient’s entire penis is at risk. Circumcision removes this dangerously tight foreskin and allows men to enjoy healthy cleanliness and pleasurable sex.
Circumcision Procedures and Foreskin Styles
The surgical technique that Dr. Bidair elects for these alterations also depends on your unique foreskin. It also will endow the desired slack or tension.
“The sleeve technique” is similar to raising the hem of a sleeve. The foreskin is stretched over the glans, excess tissue is removed, and the interior and exterior layers of the foreskin are sutured together at the incision. Men with phimosis or paraphimosis benefit from the dorsal-slit technique. In this procedure, Dr. Bidair frees the head of the penis from the restrictive foreskin via incisions from the tip of the foreskin to the appropriate location on the shaft, where he can then suture the remaining foreskin in place.
The cosmetic proximal circumcision technique addresses loose and excessive foreskin. This permanently retracts the foreskin from the glans while leaving the foreskin intact. Dr. Bidair removes a section of skin along the base of the penis and pulls back the remaining skin along the shaft. He then gently sutures the base incision closed. (2)
Benefits of Circumcision
In addition to improved appearance and self-esteem, circumcision can protect your health and the health of your partner. Women with circumcised partners have a lower rate of cervical cancer. Circumcised men have a much lower rate of contracting STDs and a 50% lower rate of contracting HIV through penile contact. (4)
Other Procedures

Scrotoplasty offers a solution for men who suffer from excess skin on the testicular sac. This may result in a scrotum that hangs unusually low or “webbing” that attaches the shaft of the penis to the testicles. Scrotoplasty can restore comfort and confidence. Men may also have noticed an overabundance of small white growths on the edge of the penis’ corona. These are called pearly penile papules, and while naturally occurring and harmless, can be a source of great embarrassment.
